Mother Neff State Park
Located just 15 minutes from Gatesville, Mother Neff State Park was the first official state park in Texas. It is named for Mrs. Isabella Eleanor (Mother) Neff, who donated six acres of land along the Leon River in 1916. In recognition of his mother’s memory, then Governor Pat M. Neff created Mother Neff Memorial Park, which later became the nucleus of the Texas State Park System. This heavily wooded park now contains 259 acres in Coryell County and has many artifacts, Indian graves, is ideal for camping, hiking, picnicking and fishing. Gatesville Fitness Center
In partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the City of Gatesville constructed a fitness and recreation center offering an indoor swimming pool and the option to work out independently or participate in one of the many exercise classes. Our hours of operation begin early and end late so you have every opportunity to make this one of your choices for a healthy lifestyle. City Pool and Splash Park
Co-located at Raby Park at the corner of Bridge Street and 8th Street, this lap size pool is a perfect way for anyone to cool off in the heat of summer. Special lap swimming times are scheduled for early morning swimmers who enjoy water aerobics before 8:00 am. With lifeguards in attendance during operating hours, this is suitable for all ages. Family oriented, historic and beautiful, Raby Park offers opportunities for picnicking, disc golf, walking and running, nearby restaurants and access to schedule your family gathering at the covered pavilion. With the Splash Park in the center, this can be a wonderful way to spend your family evening.
Faunt Le Roy Park
Faunt Le Roy Park has been the stage for many annual special events. Surrounded by a bend in the Leon River and connected to Raby Park through the hiking and biking trail, Faunt Le Roy Park is perfectly suited for some fresh air and sunshine. This unique park also offers city RV parking complete with electric connections and community restrooms and showers.
Gatesville Country Club and Golf Course
This semi-private golf course and club house is open to the public and welcomes guests. Warm up at the driving range and then enjoy 18 holes on this Par 70 course that features some real challenges with water hazards, dog legs, and complex greens that will leave you wanting to come back. Tournament events are scheduled throughout the extended summer season. Carts are available but you can also walk the course, but prepare for some hills on the back nine. Gatesville Recreation Department
The Recreation Department coordinates sports activities from Little League baseball and softball, soccer and flag football to adult league softball for both men and women. The sports complex, located on SH 84 adjacent to the Civic Center, provides easy access for these sports enthusiasts. The concession stand is operational during sporting events. The Last Drive In Picture Show
This rare find takes you back in time and is a great way to revisit a classic part of America’s past. Located on SH 36, the Last Drive In Picture Show opened in 1950 but shows first run movies. Also offering special events, an indoor screening room, and concession stand, the drive in is open all year.
